Red Cross hosts adventure camp for Haryana girls

The Haryana Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (RCS), Chandigarh, conducted a five-day state-level adventure camp for young women in Manali from June 17 to 21. A total of 86 participants, including 71 girls and 15 counsellors from universities and colleges across 16 Haryana districts, attended the camp. The event was held under the guidance of vice-chairman Ankush Miglani and general secretary Mahesh Joshi. Participants were selected through institutional recommendations and a screening process.

As part of the event, Miglani offered flowers and lit the ceremonial lamp before the statue of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross. He emphasised the importance of youth engagement and urged participants to immerse themselves in the camp’s adventurous activities. He also raised awareness about the significance of blood and organ donation.

Participants embarked on an adventure trip to Rohtang Pass after being flagged off with the Red Cross banner. Miglani also announced plans to organise a similar camp for boys soon, highlighting that such initiatives have been a consistent part of Haryana RCS’s youth programmes.

Camp Director Rohit Sharma said the primary aim of the camp was to equip youth with essential survival and rescue skills for emergency situations. The adventure team trained participants in outdoor survival and trekking techniques.

Rohit Sharma also gave an overview of the Red Cross’s history, while State Training Supervisor Ramesh Chaudhary conducted sessions on emergency first aid. Senior Programme Officer Ravinder Kumar shared effective strategies for crisis management.

Other dignitaries present included Relief Officer Sarvjeet Singh, Accounts Officer Meenakshi Khanna, and team members Sanjeev Sharma, Dinesh Kumar, Suraj, and Ranjeet Kumar.
