Shimla MC to submit mega project plan to Centre

In a push towards the holistic development of Shimla, the Municipal Corporation (MC) is gearing up to submit a comprehensive proposal to the Central government, detailing a series of developmental projects across the city. This move follows a directive from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which has invited Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) to propose new infrastructure and service initiatives within their jurisdictions.

A recent visit by officials from the Ministry to Shimla culminated in a detailed presentation at the Directorate of Urban Development. Municipal Corporation officials also attended the session, where potential areas for development — including drainage upgrades, digital infrastructure, land management and the conservation of spring water sources — were highlighted.

With a deadline of December 15 to submit the proposals, the MC has begun taking steps to formulate its project blueprint. Mayor Surinder Chauhan confirmed that the proposal preparation is underway and will soon be submitted for consideration.

This call for proposals is part of a routine national initiative under various urban development schemes. It aims to promote structured, transparent and need-based growth in urban areas. The Centre evaluates these proposals to allocate funds and resources effectively.

Typically, such project submissions span multiple sectors, including water supply, sanitation, road construction, solid waste management and other critical urban services. ULBs are expected to submit detailed project reports encompassing cost estimates, technical plans, site specifics and other supporting documents. Once received, the proposals undergo thorough review before final approvals and fund disbursement.
