Take back decision to make Urdu must for Naib Tehsildar exam, Yuva Morcha tells J&K
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Sunday criticised the National Conference (NC)-led J&K Government for the controversial decision to include Urdu as a compulsory subject in the recently notified Naib Tehsildar recruitment and said protests against the decision would be intensified.
Arun Prabhat, chief of BJYM in J&K, said that the NC has intentionally “killed the spirit of equal opportunity and meritocracy. This biased decision reveals a mindset which for decades kept J&K’s issues burning, using the region selectively to further their narrative,” he said.
The J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) had recently notified 75 posts of Naib Tehsildars but made working knowledge of Urdu mandatory for the applicants. The decision faced criticism in predominantly Hindi and Dogri-speaking Jammu region.
Prabhat questioned that when there is no Urdu language criteria for Tehsildars, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Assistant Commissioner Revenue and Divisional Commissioner who directly deal with the revenue-related matters in the UT, “then, why is it compulsory for the Naib Tehsildar’s recruitment. This exhibits the biased intent of the NC government”, he alleged.
