Aao Punya Kamaaye campaign facilitates free eye surgery
In its continuous effort to serve the underprivileged, the Sarv Naujawan Sabha (Regd.) Phagwara, along with the Sarv Naujawan Welfare Society, successfully conducted yet another eye surgery as part of their ongoing initiative, “Aao Punya Kamaaye” (Come, Earn Good Deeds).
This campaign, aimed at offering critical healthcare to those in need, facilitated a cataract surgery for Gurcharan Singh, an elderly patient, at Dr Tushar Hospital in Phagwara.
The campaign is being led by Sabha President Sukhwinder Singh and is financially supported by local industrialist Jatinder Singh Kundi.
Renowned ophthalmologist Dr Tushar Agarwal performed the successful cataract operation, implanting a foldable lens to restore the patient’s vision.
The event saw the presence of Santosh Kumar Gogi, District Secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party and Trustee Member of the Improvement Trust, Phagwara. Gogi praised the initiative as a “commendable act of service” and offered full support to the organisation, stating, “This is a lifeline for families who cannot afford expensive surgeries. More capable individuals should come forward to support such noble causes.”
Also attending the event were philanthropists Swarn Singh, Madan Lal Korotania, and Mbutung Mark Brin from Cameroon, representing Lovely Professional University (LPU).
Dr Tushar Agarwal highlighted the growing importance of eye care, especially in the context of the digital age. “Prolonged screen time and rising pollution levels are taking a toll on eye health. Early intervention is key,” he remarked, offering continued support for the Sabha’s humanitarian efforts.
Madan Lal Korotania expressed his appreciation for the campaign and urged the public to contribute to building a cleaner, healthier environment. Swarn Singh further appealed to parents to reduce their children’s mobile phone usage to safeguard their vision.
Sabha General Secretary Dr Vijay Kumar briefed the attendees on other ongoing social welfare projects. The event also saw the presence of Narinder Saini, Gurdeep Singh Tuli (Convenor, Trade Cell Phagwara), Rakesh Kochhar, Jeet Ram Tibbi, and Gulshan Kapoor.
