Disguised as customer, thief makes off with gold

In a broad daylight robbery, two miscreants fled with gold ornaments worth approximately ₹2 lakh from a jeweller’s shop near the School of Eminence in the Loharan Mandi area of Phagwara on Saturday night.

According to Sarang Nishchal, shop owner, two young men arrived at the shop — one entered while the other stood guard outside on a motorcycle.

The youth inside the shop posed as a customer and asked to see gold earrings. As the shopkeeper began showing the ornaments, the accused discreetly placed a box aside. When the shopkeeper’s attention was momentarily diverted, the accused quickly picked up the gold items and dashed out. He jumped onto the waiting motorcycle and both suspects fled the scene.

The stolen items reportedly include a 10-gram gold chain, a pair of 3-gram gold earrings, and a 3-gram gold ring.

The police have been informed and an investigation is underway. Officials are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and have begun efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits.
