Close to Surpassing ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’

For context, Sitaare Zameen Par is close to beating Laal Singh Chaddha’s lifetime haul of ₹61.36 crore nett in India. Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 had earned ₹29.5 crore by its first weekend, while Sunny Deol’s Jaat made ₹26.25 crore. However, Salman Khan’s Sikandar, with a weekend total of ₹74.5 crore, and Akshay’s Sky Force, with ₹62.25 crore, remain ahead.

About the Film

Sitaare Zameen Par is described as a spiritual sequel to Aamir’s acclaimed 2007 film Taare Zameen Par, which featured Darsheel Safary as Ishaan, a misunderstood child with dyslexia. Tisca Chopra and Vipin Sharma also starred in the original, which became a huge hit.

This time, Aamir plays Gulshan, a disgraced basketball coach mandated by the court to teach the sport to a group of neurodivergent individuals — a character that’s the antithesis of his compassionate teacher Ram Shankar Nikumbh in Taare Zameen Par. Genelia Deshmukh plays his wife, Sunita, in the film.
