The Samajwadi Party on Monday expelled three MLAs who had voted in support of the BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections.
The legislators who were shown the door included Gosainganj MLA Abhay Singh, Gauriganj MLA Rakesh Pratap Singh, and Unchahar MLA Manoj Pandey.
They were expelled for allegedly siding with ideologies opposed to the party's core values and working against public interest, the party said in a statement.
It said the legislators endorsed "communal, divisive, and negative ideologies" that go against the Samajwadi Party's inclusive and progressive principles.
The party accused the expelled leaders of supporting forces that are anti-farmer, anti-women, anti-youth, anti-business, anti-employment, and against the rights of the marginalised.
"The grace period given to these people for a change of heart has now been completed; the remaining time period is due to good conduct. In future, there will be no place in the party for 'anti-people' people, and activities contrary to the party's basic ideology will always be considered unforgivable," the party said.
"Be trustworthy wherever you are. Best wishes," the note ended.
Seven SP MLAs, including Chief Whip Manoj Pandey, had put the party in an embarrassing situation by voting in favour of the BJP candidate. Party sources said the remaining four MLAs may also face disciplinary action in the future.
