Perplexity AI Browser Now Available To Select Windows Users: What We Know So Far

Perplexity is expanding access to its AI-driven browser, Comet, by inviting a select group of Windows users to test its beta version. CEO Aravind Srinivas announced the development on X, confirming that the Windows build is now ready and early testers have already received invitations.

From Mac Exclusive to Multi-Platform Ambitions

Comet first made its debut in May, exclusively available for Mac users operating on Apple Silicon chips. The browser integrates artificial intelligence into everyday browsing tasks, enabling users to pose questions, track discounts in online shopping carts, and locate overlooked emails. A notable feature in the beta version is "Try on," which allows users to upload a personal photo and see themselves virtually dressed in selected outfits.

With Windows users now gaining access, Srinivas suggested that Comet's development is progressing rapidly. He remarked on X that the project is "moving at a crazy pace and moving ahead of schedule." Additionally, he hinted at the possibility of Android users joining the beta program in the near future.

Privacy Concerns Spark Debate

Despite the excitement around its AI features, Comet has stirred some controversy. In a previous podcast interview, Srinivas mentioned that Perplexity could leverage Comet "to get data even outside the app to better understand you."

This statement led to concerns about data privacy and user tracking. Addressing the criticism, Srinivas later clarified on X that his comments were misinterpreted, assuring that "every user will be given the option to not be part of the personalisation" when it comes to targeted advertising.

Entering a Crowded AI Browser Market

As Comet expands its beta testing, it steps into a competitive field alongside browsers like Opera Neon, as well as AI browsing initiatives from tech giants Google and OpenAI.

While Perplexity has not yet announced a firm release date, the growing waitlist and buzz surrounding Comet indicate that it aims to make a significant mark in the evolving AI-powered browsing landscape.
