Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Tragedy: Water Tanker Plunges Into Bhayandar Creek After Crash On Versova Bridge Near Ghodbunder; Driver Dead

Palghar, Maharashtra: In a tragic accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway, a water tanker plunged into Bhayandar Creek after colliding with a trailer on the Versova Bridge near Ghodbunder on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred around noon and was captured in disturbing videos and photographs that have since circulated widely.

According to preliminary reports, the tanker, traveling towards Thane, rammed into the rear of a timber-laden trailer. In an attempt to regain control after the impact, the tanker's driver veered the steering wheel, but the vehicle struck the iron safety barrier of the bridge. The railing gave way, sending the vehicle plunging into the creek and submerging it completely.

Police, rescue teams, and local authorities rushed to the scene upon receiving information about the accident. The driver’s body was later recovered from the water, though his identity remains unknown, as no identification was found on him. Furthermore, the tanker’s number plate remains untraceable due to the vehicle being completely submerged.

Kashigaon Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Initial findings suggest the driver lost control following the collision, resulting in the fatal plunge. Eyewitnesses reported that locals rushed to the site and tried to rescue the driver but were unable to save him.

The old Versova Bridge, which links Naigaon and Bhayandar on the Gujarat-bound side of the highway, suffered significant damage to its protective railing. Authorities have since taken additional safety measures at the site. The driver’s body has been sent for postmortem as investigations continue.
