Israel's next targets in Iran: Evin Prison and 'destruction of Israel' countdown clock

Israel has targetted strategic government locations in Iran, including the notorious Evin Prison, the countdown clock and the Palestine Square, according to Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz.

Katz in a statement released to Israeli media said the IDF is striking with unprecedented force at "regime targets and governmental repression bodies" in the heart of Tehran. "For every shot fired at the Israeli home front, the Iranian dictator will be punished and the attacks will continue with full force," added the statement.

Of the targets, the most significant was the Evin Prison, where political prisoners, journalists, academics, human rights activists, and others who challenged the Iranian government were kept. The strike targeted the entrance gate to the prison, apparently to facilitate the escape of prisoners.

There are no reports of prisoners hurt in the strike, according to The Times of Israel. However, the relatives of the political prisoners and concerned residents reached the facility following the strike. In the attack, an electricity feeder in the Evin neighbourhood was hit, causing power cuts in northern Tehran.

Israel also targeted Iran's 'Destruction of Israel' countdown clock at Palestine Square that counts down to Israel's professed destruction by 2040. The clock was erected in 2017 by Iranian authorities based on a prediction by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that Israel will cease to exist by 2040.

Other targets included the headquarters of the Basij paramilitary force, the Tharallah (Sarallah) Base, which is the internal security division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and the Islamic Republic's ideological command centres.

The Tharallah Base is the central command unit tasked with managing major security incidents in the capital. It operates under the direct supervision of the IRGC’s top command and plays a key role in suppressing domestic unrest.

Israeli missiles also damaged the technical building of Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, known as the "9 Dey" facility. These sections manage the transmission of national TV channels 1 to 5, as well as educational and Quranic programming. The site also hosted nine radio networks.
