Cancer Scare In Hingoli: Over 14k Women Show Cancer-Related Symptoms In District-Wide Door-to-Door Screening Campaign
As per the directives of the then District Collector Abhinav Goyal, the Hingoli District Health Department launched the ‘Sanjeevani’ campaign to detect women cancer suspects in Hingoli district. Women in the district were screened by health officials by going to their doorsteps. In the preliminary screening, 14,542 women were detected with cancer-related symptoms. All these women were sent to the primary health centres and sub-centres, where their cancer-related tests were conducted, and tests of 996 women were found positive. The second tests of these patients will be held at the district, sub-district, and rural hospitals.
The campaign was launched between March 8 and 27 in Hingoli district. The screening was done to find symptoms of cancer in women. A special questionnaire was prepared by the Health Department to collect information from the patients, which included 10 questions. The ASHA workers and health employees conducted a survey and collected information from the patients. The survey of more than 3 lakh women was conducted, of which 14,542 were cancer suspects.
There were three types of suspects, including 7,911 cervical cancer suspects, 3,953 mouth cancer suspects, and 2,698 breast cancer suspects. All these suspects were tested in primary health centres and sub-centres. Out of the total 14,542 suspects, reports of 996 women were found positive, and they were sent to the district hospital for second-level tests. The second tests of these suspects will be completed by the end of June. The possibility of cancer in these women can be confirmed after the second reports are received. They will be given proper medication and treatment afterwards.
