KL Rahul Shines At Headingley: Century Sets New Test Record

India’s star opener KL Rahul made a strong comeback in the second innings of the first Test against England at Headingley after a missed opportunity in the first.

Having been dismissed for 42 in the opening innings after a promising start, Rahul corrected his mistake and delivered a masterclass century when it mattered most.

Rahul’s 3rd Test ton in England

KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 100 off 202 balls, an innings that included 13 elegant boundaries.

This was his ninth Test century overall, and notably, his fourth against England. With this, he now has a century at all three iconic English venues — The Oval, Lord’s, and Headingley — highlighting his consistency in English conditions.

A Trusted Name in Overseas Conditions

Out of his nine Test hundreds, six have come outside India, proving Rahul’s reliability in foreign conditions. His success abroad continues to make him a vital part of the team’s top order. With captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir backing him, Rahul’s experience and form could play a key role throughout the series.

India Aim Big Despite Early Setback

Day 4 of India vs England 1st Test at Headingley began on a shaky note for the visitors, as Shubman Gill was dismissed early for just 8 runs, with India resuming at 90/2.

However, the innings quickly stabilised thanks to the composed brilliance of KL Rahul and the aggressive flair of Rishabh Pant, both of whom went on to score centuries.

With dark clouds looming and intermittent rain forecast for the day, batting conditions remain challenging. Yet, given Headingley’s track record and chasing history, India will likely target a total of 400+ to set up a strong chance of victory.
