Gopalpur gang rape case: Digital evidence against 10 accused people found, charge sheet after forensic lab report

The Odisha Crime Branch seized pieces of digital evidence against the 10 accused people in the alleged gang rape of a college student at Gopalpur sea beach.
As per the officials, digital evidence like CCTV footage and mobile communication was obtained and sent to the state forensic laboratory. A charge sheet pertaining to the case will be filed after getting the report.
DG of the Crime Branch, Vinaytosh Mishra, informed that the investigators have seized the mobile phones of all 10 accused persons and CCTV footage related to the crime.

Ten people, including four minors, were accused of raping a 20-year-old college student and assaulting her male friend on the beach in Ganjam district on June 15.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to Odisha Chief Secretary and Director General of Police over the reported gang rape of a female college student on the Gopalpur sea beach of Ganjam District. Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks.
Meanwhile, the opposition BJD called for an 'All Odisha Students Strike' on June 25 to protest the alleged gang rape of the college student. "We have appealed to students of all colleges across the state to wear black badges, boycott classes and protest openly in order to protect girl students from sexual exploitation and assault," said BJD leader Debi Ranjan Tripathy.
Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said the state government has started work for setting up six women's fast-track courts to deal with cases related to crime against women. A decision has been taken that if a woman is a victim of atrocities, the case can be decided within a month, he said.
