Cong flays hike in conversion charges
Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee president HS Lucky has condemned the recent move by the UT Administration to arbitrarily hike the conversion charges for converting leasehold properties into freehold. Terming the decision as “anti-people”, Lucky warned that the unjustified increase will severely impact thousands of residents, who have been patiently waiting to regularise their properties.
“The residents of Chandigarh have for long demanded a fair and transparent policy for converting leasehold properties into freehold. Instead of providing relief, the Administration has chosen to burden them with high charges. The move will break the backbone of countless middle-class families, senior citizens and small property owners,” said Lucky.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh BJP media incharge Sanjeev Rana said the Congress cannot distance itself from policy decisions when it the elected Member of Parliament from the city is from the party.
“Lucky seems to have forgotten that Manish Tewari is MP from Chandigarh. If he sits in key administrative meetings, where such decisions are discussed and made, how can the Congress claim ignorance or helplessness?” Rana said.
