JAMMU, June 23: Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today launched a scathing attack on the ruling National Conference (NC), accusing it of failing to deliver effective governance in Jammu and Kashmir and reneging on pre-poll promises.
Addressing a provincial-level party meeting at Gandhi Nagar office in Jammu, Bukhari expressed deep concern over the deteriorating political and administrative scenario in the UT. He demanded immediate restoration of Statehood and urged the Union Government to take tangible steps to restore public trust and confidence.
“The ruling party has utterly failed in fulfilling its promises. They pledged 300 units of free electricity and claimed to have a people’s mandate, yet now blame lack of power and disobedient officials for their failures. This is unacceptable,” Bukhari said.
The meeting, attended by senior leaders and party workers from across Jammu province, focused on reviewing political developments, organisational performance, and grassroots feedback. Members shared public grievances, which Bukhari said reflected growing disenchantment with the present administration.
He also criticized the BJP, accusing it of playing the role of a “noisy opposition” despite being in power at the Centre. “The BJP acts as if it is not in control, while the NC-led administration behaves like it’s in the opposition. Both parties are complicit in issues like the ongoing mining crisis, which has displaced locals and caused construction material prices to skyrocket,” Bukhari alleged.
Calling for urgent conduct of Urban Local Body and Panchayat polls, he said the people must be empowered through democratic means. “Eight months have passed. We gave the Government enough time to deliver. Now, enough is enough,” he asserted.
Bukhari reiterated that the Apni Party would continue raising its voice on all public issues and hold the Government accountable.
Prominent party leaders present on the occasion included provincial president Jammu Manjit Singh, provincial senior vice president Faqir Nath, provincial vice presidents Arun Chhibber & Saleem Choudhary, provincial secretary/in-charge Trade Wing Ajaz Kazmi, coordinator/in-charge Pir Panjal Arun Sharma, and provincial secretary in-charge Minority Cell Balbir Singh Baba.
