Yadav warns of flooded city roads, clogged underpasses
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Delhi government for its failure to complete desilting of storm water drains ahead of the monsoon, warning that the Capital is set to witness severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Citing official data, Yadav said the Public Works Department (PWD) had completed only 60.47 per cent of the desilting work of drains, with the June 15 deadline now over.
The PWD has now extended the deadline for completion of desilting work to June 30. By the time, as per the India Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon would have arrived in Delhi.
“The city is once again staring at flooded roads, clogged underpasses and traffic chaos,” Yadav said, blaming the Rekha Gupta government’s “lackadaisical approach” and accusing it of prioritising PR over preparation.
