Navi Mumbai International Airport Announces Perks, Top-Facility For 2 Crore Passengers Annually
Navi Mumbai: The upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to offer a fresh and excellent experience for travelers. This airport will commence operations with the ability to accommodate 2 crore passengers annually at its outset. With the rise in passenger numbers, the airport will continue to grow. According to the plan, Navi Mumbai Airport's capacity will accommodate approximately 7 crore passengers in the fourth phase and 9 crore passengers in the fifth phase. This announcement is significant for everyone flying in Mumbai and its nearby regions.
As per the Airport Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), the airport operator plans to invest a cumulative amount of Rs 57,333 crore across the initial three phases. A total of Rs 22,531 crore will be allocated in the first and second phases to ensure that passengers receive top-notch facilities.
This encompasses the passenger terminal, runway, taxiway, cargo area, fuel storage, and other essential amenities. This airport will be beneficial for travelers and will also develop into a key center for freight and commerce. AERA has set a temporary rate for airport operator NMIA, as establishing the standard fare will require time.
The airport operator suggested fees such as a user development fee and a landing charge, but AERA requested enhancements to this proposal. Navi Mumbai Airport proposed a UDF of Rs 840 for domestic passengers departing and Rs 1500 for those on international flights. Simultaneously, a UDF of Rs 360 and Rs 750 was suggested for incoming domestic and international travelers, respectively. However, AERA directed to lower these fees to relieve the burden on passengers.
In addition to this, the landing charge has also been adjusted. In connection with the current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai, the UDF with tax for departing domestic and international travelers is Rs 207 and Rs 726 respectively. Notably, Navi Mumbai Airport submitted its fair proposal to AERA on 7 February 2025.
Commercial flights are anticipated to commence from this airport by August 2025. With the commencement of flight operations from Navi Mumbai Airport, air traffic at the current Mumbai Airport will decrease and it will also play a crucial role in the region's economic growth.
