MC swings into action after it pours in Bhiwani
A day after heavy rain caused waterlogging in several parts of the town, the municipal council (MC) swung into action. Bhiwani MC member Bhawani Pratap Singh, along with MC officials and staff, on Tuesday conducted an inspection of stormwater drains to assess the drainage system and prevent future flooding.
Inspecting several areas — including Naya Bazaar, old Bus Stand, Murari Cinema, Liberty Chowk, and Sarai Chhopta —Singh the officials to take steps to immediately remove silt from drains, wherever found.
While most drains were reportedly cleaned, ongoing cleaning work was noted in some locations.
He assured residents that the city would not face waterlogging once the remaining cleaning work was completed. “The cleaning of all drains across the town is in progress. Some have already been cleared, and the rest will be completed in the next couple of days,” Singh said, adding that there would not be any waterlogging after the completion of the ongoing works.
He said the MC was coordinating with the Public Health and Engineering Department to ensure the cleaning of drains under their jurisdiction.
MC Vice-Chairman Sandeep Singh and councillors Pawan Saini and Vikas Deswal were also present during the inspection.
The move comes after waterlogging complaints emerged on Monday following the first rain of the season. The administration has now intensified drain-cleaning efforts and directed sanitation staff to expedite work.
The MC had initiated drain cleaning ahead of the monsoon, but Monday’s rain spell exposed laxity in preparedness. Residents have welcomed the proactive steps taken by the MC, and have expressed hope that the efforts would prevent repeat flooding in the coming weeks.
