Aam Aadmi Clinic bus rolled out, serves over 100 on first day

The mobile healthcare initiative in the form of the Aam Aadmi Clinic bus sewa began operations today. This innovative clinic on wheels is scheduled to visit villages and wards daily as per a pre-set timetable, bringing world-class medical services directly to the people’s doorsteps.

Its operational field on the first day was Ward Number 21 of Jamalpur. The bus attracted over 100 patients, attended by an MBBS doctor and a paramedic. “It was a grand success as the turnout of the patients was commendably good. Along with regular testing, the patients were provided with medicines free of cost. The basic motive to start this van is not just to cure the ailments but to look into the prevention part too. The majority are still oblivious of their hygiene, diet and day-to-day body requirements. We shall spread awareness regarding communicable and non-communicable diseases to the public. Also, health education, which is very crucial these days, will be provided at length,” shared Dr Bhagwan Das Pawar, the doctor stationed in the bus.

“Moreover, the public today needs to be made aware of various ailments and diseases which they are likely to encounter. Also, the symptoms and timely diagnosis is a must. The public tends to defer every ailment till it reaches a point of no return. Through this mobile bus, we shall bring home to the general public the importance of general health and the need for regular medical check-ups,” he added.

Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian shared that the Aam Aadmi Clinic Bus Sewa aims to fulfil a key promise made during the 2022 elections, to deliver the best healthcare services to the people at their very doorstep. “Equipped with a doctor and paramedics, the bus will offer free medicines and tests such as blood pressure readings, ECGs and HIV screenings, with a special focus on serving the elderly and those unable to travel due to illness. The ones needing medical supervision shall be referred to hospitals. The basic purpose is to reach out to the needy who are undergoing illness and dread visiting private hospitals. The initiative underscores the Punjab Government’s commitment to providing top-tier medical facilities at no cost to its citizens,” Mundian asserted.

“We were literally elated when we saw a bus which is said to heal all our ailments. We have never experienced such a thing before in our life. Me and my family have been down with fever for the past five years but have no pocket for medical examination. As we heard about the bus, I, along with my family, got our tests done. The doctor gave us medicines free of cost and suggested a revisit when the bus visits our ward again,” said Surinder Kaur (48) of Jamalpur.

“If this government really means to provide medical care at the doorstep, it is simply amazing. The majority are suffering due to lack of medical facilities. If the bus comes even once a month, we are satisfied. At least we have someone to care and look after. It is a highly appreciable step of the AAP government. Hope this continues in letter as well as spirit!” said Kalma Devi (62), another resident of Jamalpur.
