Addressing a press conference that largely focused on the approval of infrastructure projects and the “efforts” of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah behind them, the Deputy CM remarked, “Delhi is far, but the Secretariat and Raj Bhawan are neighbours.”
“I urge the LG-Delhi has given us roads and other projects. Now we hope that the Business Rules copy, which has been lying there for four months, will finally be approved,” he said.
Reiterating the proximity between the Secretariat and Raj Bhawan, Chowdhary cited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying, “We can change friends but not neighbours.”
“Delhi may be far, but our offices are close. If Delhi is giving us packages, then you (LG) should also take care of us. We live as neighbours; we live in proximity-and we hope the Business Rules will be approved soon,” he added.
On the approval of projects for J&K-particularly Kashmir-Chowdhary said the National Conference-led Government is fulfilling the promises made to the people.
“The rest of the promises will be fulfilled over time. Meanwhile, we reiterate our demand for the restoration of Statehood and special status to J&K,” he said.
Chowdhary credited the approval of projects to the hard work and consistent efforts of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. “People used to ask why the CM visits Delhi so often. The result is now in front of you.”
He said Omar-Government is making every effort to ensure the restoration of Statehood and special status to J&K.
“We have secured key projects worth Rs 10,637 crore for J&K from Delhi. Now, we appeal to LG Manoj Sinha to approve the Business Rules, which are vital for ensuring seamless governance,” he said.
Chowdhary expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for securing approval of 19 key road and tunnel projects worth Rs 10,637 crore.
The Deputy CM said that in the last eight months, Omar’s multiple visits to Delhi had led to the approval of these key projects.
Lashing out at the BJP, Chowdhary claimed that none of their leaders had won recent Assembly elections on their own.
“Even they know the approval came because of CM Omar. They don’t matter. Deep down, they also want special status and Statehood. They know this is because of Omar, but they can’t admit it,” he said.
“The narco test of all BJP MLAs, including the Leader of the Opposition, should be conducted. The truth will come out,” Chowdhary added.
