Monks announces Sandipan Bhattacharyya as India Head – Creative

Monks, the digital-first, data-driven brand under S4 Capital plc, has appointed Sandipan Bhattacharyya as its India Head – Creative. In his new role, Bhattacharyya will lead the agency’s creative strategy and oversee an integrated team working across both domestic and international accounts.
The appointment is positioned as a step towards strengthening the agency's presence in the Indian market, where it aims to expand its offering at the intersection of data, technology, and creative services.
Sandipan Bhattacharyya says, “Monks is redefining the agency model for a new era - where creativity, data and technology come together seamlessly. That convergence is where the most exciting ideas are being born. While most agency networks are reacting to the future of creative tech, Monks has built its business around it.
“I’m thrilled to be part of a team that’s genuinely future-facing. This is a space where we can stretch creative ambition while solving for real brand and business impact,” he added.
Bhattacharyya has led several campaigns over a career spanning more than two decades, with previous roles at Saatchi & Saatchi, BBDO, and most recently, Grey South Asia, where he served as Chief Creative Officer.
At Monks India, Bhattacharyya will lead the agency’s creative output across a client portfolio that includes Amazon, Tata Tea, Bajaj, and other domestic and international brands. His responsibilities include expanding the creative team, integrating creative and technology functions, and fostering a culture focused on experimentation and craft.
“Sandipan joining us is a game-changing moment,” said Ketan Desai, Managing Director, India, who joined the agency earlier this year. “He brings not just pedigree, but a future-facing mindset. He understands that creativity today must be adaptive, intelligent and deeply connected to business outcomes. Together, we’re building a new creative model that doesn’t separate storytelling from systems thinking.”
Bhattacharyya’s appointment coincides with a shift in Monks India’s positioning, as the agency looks to pair its existing real-time production capabilities and AI-driven workflows with increased creative leadership. The agency is aiming to provide more integrated solutions amid changing market and media dynamics.
As part of this expansion, John Paite will move into the role of Creative Head – Tech & Innovation. Paite has been leading the company’s creative-tech initiatives and will continue to oversee innovation and technology. The dual leadership model, with Bhattacharyya focusing on creative direction and Paite on technology, is intended to provide a more unified service offering.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sandipan to the Monks family. His exceptional experience and strategic insight will drive a new era of creative thought leadership across the agency. Together with Ketan and John, Sandipan will play a pivotal role in scaling Monks India to new heights, pushing boundaries, and setting new standards of innovation and excellence,” said Kenny Griffiths, Executive Vice President, Monks APAC.
Monks India’s leadership changes come at a time when brands are increasingly seeking agile, end-to-end partners capable of delivering creative and technological solutions at scale.
