BJD’s Youth and Student Wings Stage Statewide Protests against Rising Crimes against Women

Bhubaneswar: The youth and student wings of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD organized widespread protests across Odisha, condemning the alarming rise in crimes against women.
Members of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) staged demonstrations in major cities including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, and Sambalpur, demanding justice for recent victims and urgent action to tackle increasing violence against women.
The protests were sparked by the Gopalpur student gang rape incident, which has become a symbol of the deepening crisis of women’s safety in the state. Students from numerous educational institutions participated in large numbers, holding placards and chanting slogans condemning rape, murder, and rising gender-based violence.
Leaders of the BJD’s youth and student wings accused the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government of gross negligence, claiming it has failed to uphold the safety and dignity of women in Odisha.
More than 15 women face rape, harassment, or torture every single day. This reflects a systemic collapse of law and order under the BJP regime, the BYJD said.
The BJD further vowed to intensify its agitation unless the government implements concrete, time-bound measures to restore security and justice for women across the state.
