2006 World Cup: DFB convicted of tax evasion after 16-month trial

The German soccer federation (DFB) has been convicted of tax evasion linked to its 2006 World Cup bid, concluding a decade-long investigation. A Frankfurt court fined the DFB 110,000 euros for failing to pay taxes on a 6.7 million euro payment to FIFA. The payment, arranged by Franz Beckenbauer, was channeled through a Swiss firm to a Qatari company.
