Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO conducts surprise checks in PSPCL offices in Patiala

Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO conducted surprise inspections across multiple key offices of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Patiala on Wednesday to reinforce transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public service delivery.

The minister visited offices of several chief engineers, including Hydel, South Patiala, Technical Audit, Enforcement, Civil Design, Transmission System, Thermal Design, Power Purchase and Regulation, Metering and the XEN in Model Town. The visits were aimed at reviewing office functioning, staff attendance, complaint redressal mechanisms, and service delivery standards, especially during the ongoing crucial paddy sowing season.

During the inspections, Harbhajan Singh ETO examined office records, including service registers, complaint books, attendance logs, and leave records. He cross-questioned officials to verify entries and understand the responsiveness of various departments.

The minister also sought detailed information regarding the total number of applications received for new electricity metre connections. He instructed officials to present data on the number of metres sanctioned and pending cases. Harbhajan Singh ETO emphasised the need for swift processing, highlighting that delays cause inconvenience to consumers and harm the department’s credibility. He directed officials to clear the backlog promptly and ensure no eligible applicant faces undue delays in getting a new connection.

He emphasised that priority must be given to the timely sanctioning of electricity meters to ensure prompt service to consumers.

At the Chief Engineer South Patiala office, the minister reviewed timelines for resolving supply-related complaints. He scrutinised complaint registers to assess whether citizens were receiving timely resolutions to their grievances.
