Majithia’s 6 firms under lens in Prevention of Corruption Act case

The Vigilance Bureau booked SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia for acquisition of assets reportedly worth Rs 540 cr in a Prevention of Corruption Act case today.

The new case registered today is an offshoot of 2021 NDPS Act case in which the SIT had reportedly found “heavy illicit enrichment of more than Rs 540-cr worth of financial transactions” by Majithia.

The SIT had submitted an eight-page report to the Punjab DGP on June 7, 2025, on the basis of which a new FIR has been registered.

According to some of the contents of the FIR, before becoming an MLA in 2007, Majithia had four firms —Saraya Sugar Mills Limited (1956), Saraya Industries Limited (1980), Saraya Aviation Private Limited (1992), and Peregrine Saraya Organics Private Limited (1998).

After becoming a minister in non-conventional energy sector in 2009, Majithia incorporated five power firms and one transport firm. The Vigilance Bureau is now investigating these five power firms — Saraya Renewable Energy Private Limited, Gurdaspur Power Private Limited, Batala Power Private Limited, Ajnala Power Private Limited, Nawanshahr Power Private Limited and transport firm Prime Air Ambulance Private Limited. The SIT in its report has noted suspicious financial transactions as “Saraya suddenly acquired wealth and got Rs 161 cr cash deposited in bank accounts and Rs 141 cr through foreign entities. The said amount has no explanation or legitimate source. An amount of Rs 236 cr  was credited to the accounts of Saraya for which there is no disclosure/explanation in financial statements so filed by Majithia," the SIT noted.

According to the FIR content, “The evidence collected strongly indicates towards potential violation of Prevention of Corruption Act relating to possession of disproportionate assets and in view of the foregoing facts and circumstances, it is requested that a detailed investigation may be ordered into disproportionate assets of Majithia under relevant provisions of law."

A case under the PCA Act has been registered at Vigilance Bureau Flying Squad-1 police station in Mohali on June 25.
