Opposition protests Chandigarh Administration’s event to mark ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’
The Congress staged a protest against an event organised by the UT Administration to observe “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, here today. The protest was led by Ward No. 13 councillor Sachin Galav.
Galav said the Constitution was not murdered on June 25 but it was on the day when the BJP’s nominated councillor Anil Masih tampered with the votes during the mayoral elections in 2024.
City Congress president HS Lucky also opposed the function. He said the Administration cannot hold such functions. While the Emergency was declared formally, what the country is witnessing today is a more dangerous and systematic subversion of democracy, without any official proclamation, he said.
Meanwhile, Vijaypal Singh, president of the city Aam Aadmi Party, condemned the function, where Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria was the chief guest. He said the Municipal Corporation election ballots were torn in front of cameras. “Was that not also an assault on democracy?” he asked.
AAP media in charge Vikrant A Tanwar said the event had become more of a political propaganda than a true defence of democracy.
