Jammu, June 25: After nearly a decade of investigations, inquiries and legal proceedings, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir has concluded the infamous Handwara embezzlement case involving large-scale financial irregularities in the PHE Division Handwara under the NRDWP Scheme.
The department has dismissed one in-service Government official- Manzoor Ahmad Hajam, then Junior Assistant-from service with immediate effect, under Article 311(2) of the Constitution of India. He has also been permanently disqualified from any future Government employment.
Further, orders have been issued for the recovery of Rs 1,88,69,048 from several officials, both serving and retired, who were found responsible for fraudulent withdrawals and misappropriation of Government funds. In addition, with regard to Assistant Accounts Officers belonging to the Finance Department, the matter has been formally referred to the Finance Department for disciplinary action including effecting recovery of the embezzled amount.
Although this marks the conclusion of departmental action against the delinquent employees by the Jal Shakti Department, it is pertinent to mention that criminal proceedings arising out of FIR No. 91/2014 are still ongoing before the competent court of law.
