Sonakshi Sinha Reacts To Being Replaced By Mrunal Thakur In ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’: 'Not Too Upset...'

New Delhi: In a film industry where male actors often return for sequels while female leads are quietly replaced, 'Son of Sardaar 2' has added itself to the growing list. Thirteen years after 'Son of Sardaar' was released in 2012, its follow-up film will feature Mrunal Thakur as the new female lead, taking over from Sonakshi Sinha. Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn reprises his role in the sequel.

Now promoting her upcoming supernatural thriller 'Nikita Roy', Sonakshi has addressed her absence from the sequel. In a recent interview with PTI, she shared a mature and composed response to the casting change.

“I haven't had a conversation with anyone. But I'm sure they have a good reason, maybe the story or the character is not the same in the sequel. If they had replaced my character, then I would be worried. But I don't think that's the case. I'm not too upset about it. I wish them all the very best,” she said.

About 'Son of Sardaar 2'

The original 'Son of Sardaar', which hit theatres during Diwali 2012, had a high-profile clash with Yash Raj Films’ 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif. The clash led to a major controversy, with Ajay Devgn accusing the production house of unfair practices in securing theatre screens. Despite the drama, both films emerged victorious at the box office, crossing the ₹100 crore mark.

Fast forward to 2025, 'Son of Sardaar 2' is now gearing up for release on July 25, clashing with Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor's romantic comedy 'Param Sundari', though there are whispers of the latter being postponed, no official confirmation has been made.
