Michael Vaughan alters India vs England series prediction, says ‘Could be 4-0 now’
New Delhi: England led by Ben Stokes secured a five-wicket win in the Headingley Test, and a 1-0 series lead in the five-match series against India. After a terrific 149 runs knocked out by the left hand opener Ben Duckett, the hosts achieved the required target of 371 runs. England former captain Michael Vaughan who had initially made an England to win the series 3-1 has changed his forecast after the result in Leeds.
After the match ended in England’s favour, Michael Vaughan and Wasim Jaffer engaged in a banter on X (formerly Twitter). “Evening @WasimJaffer14.. Hope you are ok .. #1-0,” Vaughan wrote initially.
Responding to this, Wasim Jaffer took a shot at Vaughan, saying it was quite positive to see how immature Indian lineup got the former England captain all worked up.
“Happy that a young Indian team got you worried like this. Enjoy the win, Michael, we’ll be back,” Jaffer wrote.
However, Michael Vaughan was quick to counter this fact by reaffirming his position and goes to say that he sees England winning the series 4-0.
“Could be 4-0 now, Wasim,” Vaughan added in the end.
It is interesting to mention that Michael Vaughan had foreseen that 3-1 would propel up in favour of England even before the India-England series started.
Crushing defeat despite five individual centuries
Despite five individual centurions, the visitors lost in the first test match, something that has never happened before in the history of Test cricket.
Rishabh Pant scored centuries in both the innings, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill reached triple figures in the first innings. KL Rahul scored a century at the second innings. Bumrah has notched up a five-wicket haul in the first innings but was wicketless in the second but the Indians failed to defend 370.
Inexperienced Indian side
India lack services of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin, who have all retired from Test cricket. Nevertheless, an inexperienced and young Indian team put up a very strong fight against England.
Nevertheless, one cannot ignore the fact that India had allowed the game to slip through their fingers. A collapse in the lower order in both the innings, in addition to a below-par performance on the field, put England on their way to a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The second Test match between England and India will take place at the Edgbaston starting on Wednesday, July 2.
