Bad news for Train Passengers! Indian Railways to hike ticket prices from July 1, rates to go up by…, AC coaches to get…
New Delhi: In a major development, the Indian Railways is all set to implement a new fare tariff from July 1, 2025, Tuesday. This change will affect regular passengers as well as those traveling long distances, likely increasing their travel expenses. It is important to note that there has been no hike in fares for certain categories.
Here are some of the key details:
- According to the new railway tariff, there will be no fare increase for travel up to 500 kilometers in the general second class.
- If the journey exceeds 500 kilometers, passengers will have to pay an additional half a paisa per kilometer.
- Passengers traveling in Mail/Express trains (Non-AC) will now have to pay 1 paisa more per kilometer.
- The biggest change has been made in the AC class fares, which have been increased by 2 paisa per kilometer.
- There is no change in the fares of suburban trains, providing relief to millions of daily commuters.
- There has been no increase in the fares of monthly season tickets either.
The Indian Railways had earlier decided to change the ticket booking rules. Until now, when you book a train ticket, you would only come to know four hours before the journey whether your ticket was confirmed or not. But now, the Railways is working on a new system. It says that the chart of confirmed seats will be released 24 hours before the journey.
The passengers must note that the Indian Railways has started preparations for a new ticket booking system. The system was launched on a pilot basis in the Bikaner Division of Rajasthan from June 6. Currently, it is limited to just one train, and so far, no issues have been reported. Railway officials say the system will be tested for a few weeks.
