Information has come to light about a horrific road accident at Gholthir on Rudraprayag-Badrinath Highway in Uttarakhand. According to the information, a tempo traveler full of passengers fell into the Alaknanda river, causing a major accident. Police force and SDRF teams from police stations Agastyamuni, Ratuda and Gochar were immediately dispatched to the spot. According to initial information, the vehicle was going upstream from Rudraprayag, which went out of control and fell into the river.
Rescue teams started immediate relief and rescue operations and some injured were safely evacuated and sent to the hospital for treatment. One body has also been recovered, while search and rescue operations for other persons are ongoing.
SDRF, police force, and local administration teams are engaged in relief work at the site of the incident. The entire operation is being conducted under the supervision of senior officers. The district police is appealing to the general public to please maintain patience and not believe any kind of misleading or unconfirmed information.
There were 18 passengers in the bus, 3 died
According to the agency, Police Headquarters spokesperson IG Nilesh Anand Bharane said, “A tempo traveler went out of control and fell into the Alaknanda river in Gholthir area of Rudraprayag district. According to the information received so far, a total of 20 people including the driver were travelling in the bus.” Three passengers have died in the accident and seven are reported to be injured. At the same time, 9 people are missing.
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey said, “One person has died and seven people have been injured after an 18-seater tempo traveler fell into the Alaknanda river in Gholthir of Rudraprayag district. SDRF, police and administration teams are present on the spot for rescue operation.”
How did the accident happen?
A 31-seater vehicle (UK08 PA 7444) crashed near State Bank turn near Gholthir in Rudraprayag and fell straight from the highway into the ditch and went into the river.
Before the vehicle crashed and fell into the river, some people travelling in the vehicle were thrown out and were brought to the road above by the rescue teams with the help of local people. The injured were immediately sent to the District Hospital Rudraprayag.
