Prithvi Shaw Admits To Making 'Wrong Friends' Which Derailed His Cricketing Career; Video
Prithvi Shaw who was once considered the next big thing in Indian cricket saw his career getting derailed at a young age. The 25-year-old while speaking to News 24 revealed that making wrong friends, distractions, and personal loss took a toll on both his form and focus.
The batter revealed that his downfall began when he allowed himself to be influenced by the wrong company. He said,“I made some wrong friends. At that time, I was at the top and this is the time when you attract a lot of friends. I got off-track and my time at the ground went down from 8 hours to just 4 hours,”.

Shaw went unsold in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. To make matters worse, he was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad amid concerns about his fitness and lifestyle choices. The batter revealed that his downfall began when he allowed himself to be influenced by the wrong company.
Shaw confessed, “I have taken some wrong decisions in life. I feel that I started giving less time to cricket. I used to spend almost half of my day at the ground till 2023. But after that, I started giving importance to the wrong things.”
He added,“I made some wrong friends. At that time, I was at the top and this is the time when you attract a lot of friends. I got off-track and my time at the ground went down from 8 hours to just 4 hours,”.
The young cricketer also spoke about the emotional toll of losing his grandfather, a figure who had a deep impact on his life.
“There are a lot of things. It’s not just that. I had a family problem. My grandfather had passed away. He was very dear to me. There are a lot of things that I can’t tell you. But I can feel it.”
During the interview, Shaw also acknowledged his mistakes and expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his familyespecially his father.He said,“I admit my mistakes. But my dad has always supported me. No matter how bad my time was. He has seen good and bad,”.
