Bad news for Pakistan, China as IAF’s strength to increase by…, DRDO’s new missile to cost…, target will be…
All three organizations of the Indian Army are constantly upgrading themselves amid the growing global challenges and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has a special role in this. DRDO is now working rapidly on a new air launched subsonic cruise missile. According to sources, this missile will not only be able to be fired from the air but will also be able to target enemy areas such as command centers, airbases or logistics hubs up to 600 kilometers away.
Why is this missile special?
The missile being developed by DRDO is special in itself. This missile will be based on DRDO’s already developed ITCM missile, but it will be fired from fighter planes instead of land.
This air launched subsonic cruise missile is being designed in such a way that it can be easily launched from aircraft like Su-30MKI, Rafale, Mig-29, Tejas and the upcoming AMCA. It will also be quite economical.
Ground-launched missiles require boosters, but this air-launched version will not require it because the missile will already get height and speed from the aircraft.
Comparison with Brahmos-NG missile
This special missile will be fitted with the Manik turbofan engine manufactured in India, which is being upgraded specifically for this purpose. The missile will also be fitted with inertial navigation and satellite guidance systems, which will enable it to hit the target with great accuracy. Also, its design will be such that it can reach its target by flying very low while avoiding the enemy’s radar and air defense system.
It is being said about this subsonic cruise missile that it will be lighter and cheaper than missiles like Brahmos-NG. Brahmos-NG has a very high speed (Mach 3.5) and it has been designed for fast attacks, while this subsonic missile is slow but has been designed for long range, and it can also be deployed in large numbers.
Testing possible by the end of 2025
Apart from this, due to the low price, the Indian Air Force will be able to include this missile in large numbers in its fleet, which will give it more power and options. This missile, along with Brahmos, will give the Indian Air Force a smart and balanced weapon system, it is expected that it will play a big role in the times to come.
