Daisy Edgar-Jones to headline in fresh take on ‘Sense and Sensibility’

LONDON, June 26:
Daisy Edgar-Jones is set to step into the role of Elinor Dashwood in a forthcoming film adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1811 debut novel “Sense and Sensibility”.
Helmed by “Blue Jean” director Georgia Ookley, with an adapted screenplay by Diana Reid, the production will be brought to life by industry heavyweights Tim Bevan and Eric Feliner of Working Title Films, alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jon Wallet, reports VARIETY.
Edgar-Jones shared the news on Instagram, where she posted a photograph of herself with the novel in hand. The 27-year-old British actor broke out in Hulu’s 2020 romantic drama “Normal People” alongside Paul Mescal. She’s gone on to star in blockbusters like 2022’s “Where the Crawdads Sing” and 2024’s “Twisters.”
The new “Sense and Sensibility” will follow the familiar tale of the Dashwood sisters, who, after the death of their father, must navigate love, disappointment and shifting fortunes as they leave their family estate in Sussex.
“Sense and Sensibility” has been adapted for the screen a number of times over the years, most notably with director Ang Lee’s 1995 film starring Emma Thompson as Elinor Dashwood and Kate Winslet as Marianne. Focus Features has backed two prior remakes of Austen’s work, including the 2005 version of “Pride and Prejudice” with Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen as well as 2020’s “Emma.”, which starred Anya-Taylor Joy.
