Breaking! Jasprit Bumrah Set To Be Rested For ENG vs IND 2nd Test To Manage His Workload, Claims Report

Team India are reportedly set to deal with the blow of not having Jasprit Bumrah for the decisive second Test against England at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, beginning on June 2. According to media reports, the right-arm speedster is set to be rested for the game on account of workload management.

Team India coach Gautam Gambhir had already announced that the right-arm speedster will play only three Tests during the tour due to him being prone to injuries. The 31-year-old had sustained a back injury during the fag end of the tour of Australia earlier this year, rendering him to be unable to bowl in the final day of the series.

Bumrah's workload has also been considerably heavy during Team India's five-wicket defeat at the Headingley in Leeds. He sent down 24.4 overs in the first innings, followed by 20 in the second, notably going wicketless in the latter. Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep are the two other spare bowlers in the squad but the tourists will find themselves under pressure without Bumrah, who is a bona fide wicket-taker.

"For us to manage his workload is more important" - Gautam Gambhir

After the opening Test in Leeds, Gambhir declared that India won't change the plan to play Bumrah only in three Tests. The former Indian opener said, as quoted by BBC Sport:

"We won't change it. For us to manage his workload is more important. There is a lot of cricket going forward. Let's see how his body turns up. We haven't decided which two other matches he is going play."
