West Bengal News: CBI Arrests Key Accused In BJP Worker Abhijit Sarkar’s 2021 Murder Case

Kolkata: CBI on Thursday had arrested one person in connection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Abhijit Sarkar’s murder during 2021 post poll violence.

The accused identified as Arun Dey, was absconding since the inception of the case and never joined investigation.

According the press statement issued by the central investigating agency, “The instant case dated 25.08.2021 pertaining to the murder of Abhijit Sarkar is one of the Post Poll Violence Cases which were registered at CBI, Kolkata in compliance of the order dated 19.08.2021 of Hon’ble Calcutta High Court in WPA (P) 142 -149 and 167 of 2021 by taking over the investigation of Narkeldanga PS Case No. 124/2021 dated 02.05.2021. After completion of investigation CBI filed charge sheet on 30.09.2021 against 20 persons including the absconder. The arrested accused was produced before the court of Ld. Judge, Bench I, NDPS Act, City Sessions Court, Calcutta today and remanded to Judicial Custody.”

In May 2023, the police had arrested two persons in connection to this case, and later chargesheeted them.

Notably, in 2021 BJP worker Abhijit Sarkar was murdered shortly after the assembly election results were announced on May 2.
