Finish pipeline laying work at Leela Bhawan Chowk before schools reopen: DC to officials

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Preeti Yadav today visited Leela Bhawan Chowk to review the ongoing pipeline laying work for supplying potable water. She directed officials from L&T and Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board to complete work before schools reopen in the first week of July.

Emphasising on importance of the location, Dr Yadav instructed officials that the work must continue round the clock. She said Leela Bhawan Chowk was a key traffic junction in the city, witnessing heavy vehicular movement and must be made motorable at the earliest to minimise public inconvenience.

She also stressed on the need for proper safety and information measures at the work site. “Signage must be installed at all locations where roads have been dug up so that commuters are aware of the ongoing work,” she said, adding that any kind of negligence in road repair would not be tolerated.

Vikas Dhawan, Executive Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, informed that the pipeline laying work from the Post Office to Leela Bhawan would to be completed within next five days.

The second phase of work, extending from Gopal Sweets Chowk to Baradari, would be completed within next 20 days, he said. He said after laying pipelines, thorough testing was conducted to check for any leakages. Any issues were addressed immediately, followed by commencement of the road repair work, he said.

Municipal Corporation’s Superintendent Engineer Harkiranpal Singh said an amount of Rs 20 crore was allocated for road construction in Patiala. Tenders for the same had been issued and work orders released, he said. He assured that road repair work would begin immediately after pipeline testing was completed.
