Sensex soars by 1,000.36 points
MUMBAI, June 26: Extending the winning streak for the third straight session today, the BSE Sensex zoomed up by 1,000.36 points to end firm at 83,755.51 backed by gains in Asian markets and continued optimism around a possible Israel-Iran ceasefire, traders said
Continued support from domestic institutional investors and expectations of further revival in corporate earnings in the first quarter of the ongoing fiscal year are also supporting market sentiment, traders added.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) too advanced by 304.25 points to settle at 25,549.00.
The Sensex opened higher at 82,882.92 as compared to its previous close of 82,755.51 and rose further to register an intra-day high of 83,805.91 and low of 82,816.26 points.
The Nifty registered an intra-day high at 25,565.30 and low at 25,259.30 points.
The BSE Mid-Cap index edged higher by 0. 56 percent and BSE Small-Cap index inched up by 0.12 pc.
The market breadth was stronger on BSE, as 2,094 scrips rose while 1,901 declined and 158 others were unchanged.
Among sectoral indices, barring BSE IT and Realty which edged down by 0.14 pc and 1.04 pc respectively, all other ended the session in green with BSE Metal being the top gainer (up by 2.28 pc).
Other sectoral gainers were Commodities by 1.39 pc, Energy by 1.68 pc, FMCG by 0.61 pc , Financial by 1.25 pc, Health care by 0.28 pc, Industrial by 0.58 pc, Telecom by 0.80 pc, Utilities by 1.24 pc, Auto by 0.51 pc, Bankex by 0.95 pc, Capital goods by 0.36 pc, Consumer Durables by 0.79 pc, Oil & Gas by 1.88 pc, Power by 1.13 pc, and Teck by 0.48 pc.
Among 30 scrips, 22 advanced while eight declined.
Top five gainers were Tata Steel (up by 2.59 pc to Rs 160.45), Adani Ports (by 2.46 pc to Rs 1,426.60), Eternal (by 2.45 pc to Rs 265.15), Bharti Airtel (by 2.44 pc to Rs 2,013.50) and Bajaj Finance (by 2.26 pc to Rs 949.20).
Losers were Tech Mahindra (down by 0.39 pc to Rs 1697.70), Maruti (by 0.36 pc to Rs 12,720.00), Trent (by 0.31 pc to Rs 6,110.00), M&M (by 0.30 pc to Rs 3,205.80) and Sun Pharma (by 0.27 pc to Rs 1,666.00).
In global markets, Asian shares ended mixed, as Nikkei 225 rose by 1.62 pc, Straits Times advanced by 0.32 pc, Hangseng fell by 0.61 pc and Kospi declined by 0.93 pc.
European stocks edged higher, as FTSE went up by 0.26 pc, CAC by 0.24 pc and DAX by 0.88 pc.
In the US, shares ended on a subdued note on Wednesday. The S&P 500 hovered near the flatline, closing at 6,092.16. The Nasdaq inched up 0.31 pc, while the Dow slipped by 0.25 pc.
