Unable to pay loan, elderly couple dies by suicide
An elderly couple died by suicide by consuming sulphas at their shop in Gandhi Nagar here on Thursday.
According to residents of the area, the man had taken a loan from a bank and the amount was said to be around Rs 2 crore. He had been paying instalments regularly but recently he failed to clear one instalment. Following which, bank employees were constantly visiting their house for recovery due to which the couple went into depression.
Troubled by the bank officials, the man and his wife ended their lives on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Jasbir Singh and Kulbir Kaur.

According to information, Jasbir owns a hosiery shop in Gandhi Nagar. On Thursday morning, when the deceased’s son returned from gym, he saw his parents lying in an unconscious state. He, with the help of other people, took them to the DMCH, where both died during treatment.
ADCP Sameer Verma said the man had taken loan and he failed to clear one instalment. The couple before ending their life, left behind a suicide note in which they had mentioned the name of a private bank manager and a loan agent. As per the suicide note, an FIR was being registered against the persons mentioned in it. The couple in the suicide note had stated that they ended their lives due to the harassment by the bank officials.
