Gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s Mother Shot Dead In Punjab's Gurdaspur, 1 Other Killed

In a shocking incident from Punjab’s Gurdaspur, gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s mother, Harjit Kaur, was shot dead by unidentified assailants. The attack took place in Batala, where Harjit Kaur was travelling in a Scorpio SUV with a man named Karanveer Singh, who was driving the vehicle.

As the car was moving, three armed men on a motorcycle intercepted them and opened fire at the vehicle. Karanveer Singh died on the spot, while Harjit Kaur was rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar in critical condition. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

According to Batala police, three unidentified assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at the vehicle in which Harjit Kaur and Karanveer Singh were travelling. The attack occurred around 10.45 pm. “We got a call about the gunfire late in the evening and rushed to the spot,” said DSP Parmveer Singh.

Karanvir Singh, a resident of Bhikhowal village, was declared dead on arrival at the Batala Civil Hospital. “He died from bullet injuries,” confirmed Dr Sukharaj Singh of the civil hospital.

The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Police have established checkpoints across the area in an attempt to track down the suspects. Senior officials also visited the crime scene, and a full-scale investigation is underway. Authorities said the motive behind the attack remains unclear and is being actively probed.

Earlier this year, in March, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau from Bathinda Central Jail and later transferred to Silchar Jail in Assam. He is considered a key figure in Punjab’s organised crime network and is accused in several cases of drug trafficking, extortion, and murder.
