Faridabad: Woman Slaps Cook 8 Times, Victim Alleges Caste Abuse, CCTV Footage Goes Viral; FIR Lodged

Faridabad: A disturbing video from Haryana's Faridabad recently surfaced on social media, wherein, a woman is being slapped eight times and verbally abused by her employer.

The victim, Shyama Devi, is a domestic worker, who was attacked on the morning of June 17 in Sector 17 by Deepali Jain, a resident of the household where she had been working as a cook for over two years.

A CCTV footage of the entire incident, shows Deepali slapping her, attempting to strike her with a mop before finally being pulled away by a family member.

Victim Alleges Caste Abuse and Threats

Speaking to reporters, Shyama said, “The driver rang the bell 10-12 times. I went and opened the door. That’s when Deepali started slapping me without saying what I had done wrong. My nose bled, my cheeks swelled, and I had a severe headache.”

She also alleged caste-based abuse and said this was not the first time she had been mistreated by the employers. “They don’t allow my children to play outside, saying they cause a mess. Even when they play quietly, we’re threatened,” she added.

The cook further said that she had endured such treatment in the past but finally decided to report the abuse after the recent assault left her physically injured and mentally traumatised.

Police Register FIR, Probe Underway

Assistant Commissioner of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed that Shyama has filed a formal complaint. “We have booked Deepali Jain in the case. A probe is underway,” he said, as quoted by NDTV.

The viral footage sparked outrage online, with many calling for stringent action and justice for Shyama.
