Bank account holders alert! 6% penalty will be levied if the average monthly balance in the account is not Rs 10,000!
If you have an account in DBS Bank, then this news is going to be very important for you. Actually, DBS Bank has issued new instructions, according to which now the bank’s customers will have to maintain an average monthly balance in their savings account.
The bank has issued a directive for its account holders, which states that if you do not maintain at least 10 thousand rupees in your account every month, then a heavy penalty will be imposed. This penalty can be 6 percent of the remaining balance or a maximum of Rs 500. This directive has been issued by the Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) India.
According to the website of DBS Bank India, from August 1, 2025, the fee for not maintaining the average monthly balance will be 6% of the balance, with a maximum limit of Rs 500. The average monthly balance (AMB) for the savings account of this bank is Rs 10,000. DBS Bank has also shared information with its customers through SMS.
Will the rules change from August 1?
DBS India said on its website that from August 1, 2025, the non-maintenance charge will change depending on your savings account type. Now account holders will have to pay a charge for not maintaining a higher average monthly balance than before.
ATM charges also increased from May 1, 2025
RBI had approved the increase in ATM charges, which is effective from May 1, 2025. Following the RBI notification, DCB Bank has also imposed a maximum fee of Rs 23 on each ATM cash transaction after the free transaction limit is exhausted. Like other banks, DBS Bank is also charging a fee of Rs 23 on each non-DBS bank ATM cash withdrawal transaction after the end of free transactions. However, if you have an account in DCB Bank and withdraw from DBS Bank ATM, it will be free. You can withdraw cash unlimited times without any charge.
DCB Bank had informed that as per the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the cash withdrawal fee from ATM has been increased to Rs 23 per transaction from May 1, 2025. The bank had given this information to the customers through mail.
It is worth noting that RBI had said on March 28, 2025 that beyond the free transactions, a maximum fee of Rs 23 can be charged from the customer per transaction. This will be effective from May 1, 2025. If any tax is applicable on this, it will be additional, which can be according to the transaction.
