Kolkata HORROR: Law student gang-raped in college security guard’s room, two seniors, ex-student arrested
A young woman studying at a Kolkata college has told police that two of her seniors and a former student raped her on campus. On the evening of June 25, she went to the college for some work when the three men took her to a room and assaulted her. After the woman filed a complaint at Kasba Police Station, officers arrested all three suspects on Thursday night.
“Three persons have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman. According to the victim, the incident took place on June 25. Investigation is going on,” a police officer said.
What the Complaint Says
According to her statement, the woman went to the South Calcutta Law College around 12 PM on Wednesday to fill out exam-related forms. She waited inside the college union room for some time. Later in the day, she alleged that one of the accused ordered the main gate of the college to be locked. The woman said she was then taken to the security guard’s room, where the assault took place. The assault happened between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM there.
Arrests made
Following her complaint at Kasba Police Station, three men were arrested: Monojit Mishra (31), Former student of the college and currently a student wing leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMCP).
Zaib Ahmed (19), a first-year student at the college. Pramit Mukherjee (20) – Another student of the same college. Mishra and Ahmed were caught from a road crossing in Kasba on Thursday evening. Mukherjee was arrested later that night from his home around 12:30 AM. Police have also seized their mobile phones as part of the investigation.
Doctors are now examining the woman, and the investigation has only just begun. Police say they are treating the case with urgency and will gather more evidence as the inquiry moves forward.
This new case happened less than a year after another tragic crime in Kolkata. Last year, a postgraduate medical student at RG Kar Medical College was raped and murdered. In that case, a 33-year-old civic volunteer with Kolkata Police named Sanjay Roy was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
