YSRCP supporter death case: Andhra Pradesh HC protects Jagan Mohan Reddy from arrest till next hearing

The Andhra Pradesh High Court restrained state police from taking any coercive action against former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with the death of YSR Congress Party worker during a rally in Guntur. The High Court will next hear the matter on Tuesday.
The High Court, hearing a petition moved by the YSRCP leader seeking to quash charges against him in the case, granted interim relief to the former chief minister. The development comes after Andhra Pradesh police on Tuesday seized Reddy's bulletproof car in connection with the probe.
The YSRCP conducted a rally in Rentapalla village in Guntur on June 18, while he was en route to visit the house of a party functionary who died by suicide a year ago. The party leader allegedly took the extreme step following harassment by police.
The incident occurred when Reddy's convoy was passing through Etukuru bypass on June 18. C Singayya, a YSRCP worker, fell under Reddy's vehicle he was allegedly crushed to death. Though Singayya was rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead by doctors.
The former chief minister was named accused in the case after visuals emerged of the tragic incident. Police initially registered a case for causing death by negligence based on the complaint of Singaiah's wife Cheeli Lurdhu Mary. They later altered the charges after cops analysed video footage of the incident.
Police booked the former chief minister under Sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 49 of the BNS (Abetment). Besides Reddy, his driver Ramana Reddy, personal assistant K. Nageshwar Reddy, senior YSRCP leader Y.V. Subbareddy, former MLA Perni Venkataramaiah, and former minister Vidadala Rajini have also been named accused in the case,
Earlier this week, Reddy accused the Chandrababu Naidu government of lapses in his security. Reddy asked the state government why there was no pilot vehicle or rope parties deployed during his visit which was part of the standard Z+ security protocol provided to him.
