Man killed over alleged illicit relationship in Amritsar

A man was allegedly killed by his two friends in Gumtala Colony falling under the Cantonment police station here late Thursday night. The reason behind the murder is suspected to be an illicit relationship.

The victim has been identified as Gurinder Singh (45), a resident of Gumtala Colony. His body has been sent for post mortem examination.

Police have registered a case against Sukhwinder Singh and his fried Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, both residents of the Guruwali area. The accused are currently absconding.

According to information, Gurinder worked as a security guard. He had befriended with Sukhwider Singh and they started visiting each other’s house on various occasions.

Shiv Darshan Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (West), said that Sukhwinder had grown suspicious that Gurinder was having an illicit relationship with his wife. This suspicion led to a fracas between them.

The ACP added that yesterday, they had a scuffle over the issue, which was temporarily diffused by onlookers. However, later in the evening, Sukhwinder, along with Gurpreet, allegedly confronted Gurinder and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon (Datar), inflicting serious injuries. Gurinder died on the spot due to excessive blood loss.

A case of murder case has been registered, and raids were being conducted to arrest the duo, the ACP said.
