The tradition of Historic Puri Jagannath Rath yatra has been practiced for thousands of years. This old-age custom is mentioned in ancient scriptures such as the Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Skanda Purana and Kapila Samhita.
Each year, three new wooden carts are constructed, yet the Model, Structure, Design, and Dimensions stay unchanged. Chariots are constructed from a specific variety of neem tree wood, and the wood collection begins on Basant Panchami. 
Lord Jagannath, Balabhara, and Subhadra travel from their temple to the Gundicha Temple and stay there for 7 days before returning.
The chariot of Jagannath, known as Nandhighosha, stands approximately 44 ft tall and features 16 wheels, with red and yellow being the primary colors used for it. Balbhadra's chariot, known as Taladhwaja, whereas Subhadra's chariot, named Darpadalana, has 14 wheels. 
Bhagwan Jagannath and his celestial siblings start their journey from the Jagannath mandir and make their way to the Gundicha temple, which is their aunt's dwelling, where they reside for a week until the chariot festival's return day.
