Faridabad murder: Father-in-law raped victim sans husband's knowledge before killing her, says Haryana Police

A Faridabad woman was raped and strangled to death by her father-in-law before being dumped in a pit by her husband, the Haryana Police found out. While the husband drugged his wife for his father to take her life, he was unaware that his partner had been sexually assaulted before being killed. The victim's mother-in-law was also involved in the heinous murder plan, Haryana Police said, while the role of the sister-in-law is being probed.

 

According to the police, the man drugged his sister along with his wife on April 21 — the night of the crime. However, it is yet to be established whether the sister was given sleeping pills to keep her silent or was a collateral victim. It also needs to be determined whether she was informed about the murder afterward and chose to keep law enforcement and the victim's family in the dark to protect her relatives.

 

After the murder, Arun Singh told his wife’s family in Shikohabad, in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, that she had eloped with her paramour. He claimed he found the main gate of their residence open on the morning of April 22. However, the woman’s family was not convinced and decided to file a police complaint.

 

Bhoop Singh, the father of Arun Singh, was unable to withstand police interrogation and confessed to having raped and murdered his daughter-in-law with the help of his son. He also said that his wife was part of the plot and had deliberately left the house on the night of the crime to make things easier for the men.

 

Soon after, the Faridabad Police converted the initial missing person’s complaint into a murder case, invoking charges under Sections 103(1) (murder), 3(5) (common intention), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

 

Bhoop Singh told the police that after the sleeping pills were mixed into the victim’s food, he entered the room where she was sleeping. While he had been tasked with strangling her, he sexually assaulted her before killing her. 

 

After confirming that she was dead, Singh called his son to the room, and together they carried the body to a pit they had dug a few days earlier. The woman’s remains were exhumed from this pit earlier this week. It was a 10-foot-deep concrete slab, filled with bricks and soil, the police told the press.
