The main accused in the South Calcutta Law College gangrape case had approached the survivor with a marriage proposal, and her rejection reportedly led to the assault, according to a news report quoting her statement to Kolkata Police. The rape was allegedly recorded on a phone camera to blackmail her in the future, the complaint filed with Kasba Police stated.
The survivor, a law student, alleged that the accused threatened to harm her boyfriend and implicate her parents in false cases after being rejected. She was also beaten with a hockey stick before being released from the college premises close to 11 PM on Wednesday, June 25, the report said.

According to her statement, she had some work at the college but was threatened by the accused into staying back. Although she had planned to leave after completing her pending tasks by 4 PM, she was allegedly forced to remain on the campus even after sunset.
Later in the evening, the three accused allegedly took her into the guard room on the ground floor of the main college building, where she was raped and assaulted. Despite her repeated pleas to let her go, they continued to intimidate and assault her between 7:30 PM and 10:50 PM, media reports quoted police as saying.
