Phagwara: The Phagwara police have arrested a ‘drug smuggler and recovered 10 gm of heroin from him. Accused Vikas of Garrha near Jalandhar, presently residing in a paying guest house in village Miherru, was nabbed at a check point. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. In another case, a ‘drug peddler’ Kuldip Singh of Sukhchain Nagar, Phagwara, has been arrested and the police recovered 50 intoxicating tablets from his possession. oc
5 booked for stealing cash
Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked five persons on the charge of stealing cash and jewellery from a house. Accused have been identified as Harman, Dimpi, and Kala, residents of Singhpur village, Bunti, a resident of Pandori Khas and one unidentified accomplice. Bhupndar Singh of Singhpur village complained to the police that the accused barged into his house on June 25 and stole Rs 26,000 and gold and silver jewellery. oc

Phagwara: The Bilga police have arrested three ‘drug peddlers’ on the charge of selling intoxicating tablets. As many as 260 tablets were recovered from the possession of the accused Gurleen Singh of Bhatti Bilga village, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, of Sagarpur village and Fauja Singh of Bhode village. The Nurmahal police arrested drug peddler Steffan of Taggar village with 25 tablets. oc
Woman held for selling liquor
Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a woman on the charge of brewing and selling illicit liquor. As much asd 150 litre of lahan was seized from the possession of the accused Kulwinder Kaur, alias Archana, a resident of Eenowal village. A case under the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused and her husband, who managed to flee from the spot. oc
Blood Bank sends clothes to NGO
Phagwara: The Blood Bank located in Guru Hargobind Nagar, Phagwara, dispatched a pick-up van loaded with pre-owned, wearable clothes to the Jalandhar collection centre of Goonj – an NGO and Magsaysay Award recipient. The van was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta along with Mayor Rampal Uppal. Blood Bank president Malkeet Singh Raghbotra said they collect old clothes and sent to Goonj. oc
Tinu holds show of strength
Jalandhar: Just a day after becoming the new halqa incharge of the Aam Aadmi Party from Adampur, ex-MLA Pawan Tinu held a show of strength on Thursday. He was welcomed as the halqa incharge by workers of the party as well as leaders including minister Mohinder Bhagat, MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann, halqa incharges Nitin Kohli, Dinesh Dhall and Rajwinder Thiara.
