4 held for robbing money exchanger in Kapurthala; Rs 16,900 recovered
The Kapurthala police have arrested four persons, including a woman, in connection with the recent robbery of a money exchanger on Sultanpur Road. The suspects allegedly assaulted the victim and fled with Rs 32,000 in cash, a credit card and important documents. Police have recovered Rs 16,900 of the stolen amount.
SHO Kirpal Singh of Kotwali Police Station, Kapurthala, confirmed the arrests and stated that all accused are drug addicts who used honey trap tactics to target and rob unsuspecting passers-by. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kajal, a resident of Shergarh; Vikramjit Singh, residing in RCF; Manjit Singh alias Deepu; and Lakhwinder Singh alias Tiddi, both residents of village Bahui.
Notably, the victim, Sushil Kumar, a resident of the Shergarh locality and a money exchanger working with EES BEE FOREX (Western Union), was returning to Kapurthala on the evening of June 22 after completing work at RCF. Near the Indian Oil petrol pump, he stopped his motorcycle to relieve himself when a man, aged around 35–40, approached and asked for directions.
As Sushil attempted to respond, the man forcefully dragged him toward a nearby abandoned building, where a woman and two other men were waiting. The four accused assaulted him and robbed Rs 32,000 in cash, along with his credit card and other belongings, before fleeing the scene.
Acting on the victim’s complaint, Kotwali police registered an FIR against unknown persons and began investigating. CCTV footage from the area helped identify the female suspect, Kajal, who was taken into custody. During police interrogation under remand, she confessed to the crime.
Based on her statement, the police arrested the remaining three accused: Vikramjeet Singh, son of Satnam Singh, originally from Gurdaspur and currently residing in type-2 RCF; Manjeet Singh alias Deepu, son of Kashmir Singh; and Lakhwinder Singh alias Tiddi, son of Kashmira Singh, both residents of village Bahui. According to SHO Kirpal Singh, the main accused, Lakhwinder Singh, has a criminal record with multiple cases registered against him.
